Ruling on Burying Nails, Cutting Them at Night and Saying Bismillaah Over Them

All praise be to Allah. Many people believe that cutting nails at a tight time is not permissible and that one has to spicy and say bismillah on the nail thrice before throwing it away. It is also believed that the nails must only be buried and not thrown here and there so that shayateen will not be able to take or use it. Our Muslim brothers and sisters must know that there is no basis for saying that cutting the nails at night is haraam. It is permissible to cut one's nails at any time, whenever he wants, day or night. Similarly, there is no basis for saying that one must say bismillah thrice and spit before cutting nails or throwing them away. It is also not correct to say that the nails must be buried so to prevent shayatan to use them. A hadeeth was narrated concerning that which is da’eef jiddan (very weak). It is permissible to throw them in the garbage or down the drain or to bury them. If a person fears that they may fall into the hands of those who practice sihr (

Who Are the Wahhaabis and What is Their Message?

Praise be to Allaah. It is obligatory upon the Muslim to follow the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), according to the way of the righteous salaf who followed the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the Sahaabah and those who followed them – may Allaah be pleased with them all. These people are called Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community). Everyone who follows the way brought by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is one of them. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought the message of Tawheed (absolute Oneness of Allaah) and rejection of shirk (polytheism, or association of others with Allaah); he called people to worship Allaah alone and none other. With regard to the word “Wahhaabis”, some people use this word to refer to the message of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab ibn Sulaymaan al-Tameemi al-Hanbali (may A

My Revert Story - Dr. Bilal Phillips

“After about 6 months of reading and discussion, I had made my decision and embraced Islam in 1972.” Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, born in Kingston, Jamaica, grew up in Toronto, Canada, where he reverted to Islam in 1972. Tell us the turning point for you. What really touched you into becoming a Muslim? I was raised a Christian, during my university days I joined the communist party with a desire to make the world a better place, to remove injustice and oppression and replace it with equality and freedom and all ideas that communism offers. But after some years, as a student I came to realize that communism could not deliver the goods that they were proposing. And asides that I found that it was lacking in the area of morality as well as in economic theory, which probably is the greatest aspect of communism. It could not compete with capitalism. So at that point where I became disillusioned and after reading about the massacres of human beings under communist leader St

Woman Traveling to Seek Knowledge Without a Mahram

All praise be to Allaah. The saheeh evidence indicates that a woman is not allowed to travel except with a Mahram. This is the greatness of Islam and the perfection of it. It protects honour and dignity of women and strives to protect them and guard them against the causes of temptation and deviation. The evidence includes the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (1729) and Muslim (2391) from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No woman should travel except with a mahram, and no man should enter upon her unless there is a mahram with her.” A man said: “O Messenger of Allaah, I want to go out with such and such an army and my wife wants to go for Hajj.” He said: “Go out with her.” Based on the above evidence it is not permissible for a woman to travel alone without a mahram, to seek knowledge. She should acquire knowledge that she needs in many ways like the internet, asking scholars and by

The Miracle of the Moment of Creation

Till the beginning of 20th century the people thought that the universe is static and there is no start and end for it. It was a reason for materialism to deny the existence of the creator. But in the modern era of science, several researchers, observations, and calculation have been done which shed light on some cosmologic facts. However, science is not 100% true because there are always variations and theories but we select those evidences which are highly confirmed by science today. So one of those cosmological facts is that the universe is constantly expanding the idea of expanding universe was proposed in early 20th century by the Russian physicist Alexander Friedmann and the Belgian cosmologist Georges Lemaitre. Through some theoretical calculations they found that the universe is constantly in motion. Later on, in 1929, the concept was confirmed by Edwin Hubble. Edwin Hubble sat there at his very big night after night studying the heavens. He found that the stars are moving

Teachings of the Prophet (Pbuh) on Maintaining Good Health

Praise be to Allah. Allah, may He be exalted, sent His Messenger Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner, to bring people forth from darkness to light by His leave, and to guide them to the straight path. He did not send him as a doctor to treat physical illness and sickness. He instructed him to build mosques, and He did not instruct him to build hospitals, but he encouraged people to seek divine remedies by means of the Qur’an which treats diseases of the heart (i.e., spiritual sicknesses) so that they may believe after having disbelieved, and they may obey Allah after having been disobedient, and they may be guided after having been misguided. Allah did not send down the Qur’an in order to prescribe remedies for diseases, even though it is healing for both spiritual and physical disease, as Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say: It is for those who believe, a guide and a healing” [Fussil

Which Surah of Quran Was Last Revealed?

Praise be to Allaah. The last soorah of the Qur’aan to be revealed was Soorat al-Nasr (“When there comes the Help of Allaah (to you, O Muhammad against your enemies) and the Conquest (of Makkah)” [al-Nasr 110:1 – interpretation of the meaning]). This is the view of Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him). Muslim (3024) narrated that ‘Ubayd-Allaah ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Utbah said: “Ibn ‘Abbaas said to me, ‘Do you know the last soorah of the Qur’aan that was revealed in full?’ I said, ‘Yes,“When there comes the Help of Allaah (to you, O Muhammad against your enemies) and the Conquest (of Makkah)” [al-Nasr 110:1 – interpretation of the meaning]].’ He said, ‘You have spoken the truth.’” This is supported by the saheeh report from ‘Umar and Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with them both) that this soorah was a sign that the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was approaching. Al-Bukhaari (4970) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “‘'Umar used to

Saying a Du’aa ‘from the Quran When Prostrating

Praise be to Allaah. Firstly: The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade reciting Qur’aan when bowing and prostrating. Muslim (479) narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have been forbidden to recite the Qur’aan when bowing or prostrating. As for bowing, glorify your Lord therein, and as for prostrating, strive in du’aa’, for it is deserving of a response (from your Lord).” Muslim (480) narrated that ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade me to recite Qur’aan when bowing and prostrating. The scholars are agreed that it is makrooh to recite Qur’aan when bowing or prostrating. The wisdom behind that is: It was said that the best pillar of prayer is standing and the best of dhikr is reciting Qur’aan, so the best has been put with the best, and it is not

The Sons-in-law of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him)

Praise be to Allaah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had four daughters, all of whom were born from Khadeejah (may Allaah be pleased with her): 1 – Zaynab (may Allaah be pleased with her); she was the oldest of his daughters. She married Abu’l-‘Aas ibn al-Rabee’ (may Allaah be pleased with him) and she bore him ‘Ali and Umaamah. She died in 8 AH. 2 – Ruqayyah (may Allaah be pleased with her). First she married her cousin ‘Utbah ibn Abi Lahab, then he divorced her before consummating the marriage with her, when Allaah revealed the words, “Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab” [Soorat al-Masad, 111]. Then she married ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allaah be pleased with him), and she migrated with him to Abyssinia, then to Madeenah. She fell sick at the time when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went out for the battle of Badr, and he ordered ‘Uthmaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) to stay with her, but he allocated him his share of the b

Everything You Need to Know About Al-malaa’ikah (Angels)

Praise be to Allah. Belief in angels is one of the six pillars of belief or faith without which there is no faith. Whoever does not believe in any of these pillars is not a believer (mumin). These pillars are belief in: Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Last Day, and that predestination, both good and bad, comes from Allah. Angels are a part of the world of the “Unseen” which we cannot comprehend. Allah has told us about them in many places in the Quran and via His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). There follows a number of proven reports concerning the angels, which hopefully will make you realize the greatness of the Creator and the greatness of this religion which has told us so much about them: Of what are they created? They are created from light, as ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘The angels are created from light, just as the jinn

Importance of Women Education in Islam (Best Advice for Our Sisters)

Praise be to Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say (O Muhammad): ‘This is my way; I invite unto Allaah (i.e. to the Oneness of Allaah — Islamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allaah, i.e. to the Oneness of Allaah — Islamic Monotheism with sure knowledge). And Glorified and Exalted be Allaah (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikoon (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah; those who worship others along with Allaah or set up rivals or partners to Allaah)’” [Yoosuf 12:108] Allaah has given us many ways nowadays that make it easy to seek knowledge without any hardship and without having to go of the house; that is by means of cassette tapes, the computer and the internet. Women – and also men – must follow the right way of acquiring knowledge, starting with what is easy before embarking on difficult matters. It is also essen

MY VIEW ON SYRIA AND YEMEN -Dr Zakir Naik

5 Reasons Why Dhul-Hijjah 10 Days Are Very Special

These days, many messages and posts on social media are circulated about the significance of Dhul-Hiijah 10 days. Scholars and Imams encourage people to increase their good deeds. You may wonder why these days are receiving so much attention. After all, these are not Ramadan days. But, you know what? These days are comparable to, or even better than Ramadan. This might be unknown to many. Scholars used to compare the 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah with the last 10 days of Ramadan; they tried to establish which of the two periods is better based on the Quran and Hadith texts. This in itself shows the greatness of these days. Some scholars believe that while the night time during Ramadan is better than the nights of Dhul-Hijjah, the day-time of Dhul-Hijjah days is better than Ramadan days. HERE ARE 5 REASONS WHY DHUL-HIJJAH 10 DAYS ARE SO SPECIAL: 1) Best Days Ever Several hadiths mentioned that these days are THE best: Jabir reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings b

Why Does Islam Forbid Muslims to Imitate Disbelievers?

Praise be to Allah Imitating others is something that happens to humans. It is indicative of great love of the one whom one imitates, but in many cases it is an unhealthy phenomenon. Islam pays a great deal of attention to this issue (Muslims imitating disbelievers), and the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) definitively prohibited it and said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (4031); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: At the very least this hadith indicates that it is prohibited to imitate them, even though the apparent meaning indicates that the one who imitates them is himself a disbeliever, as in the verse in which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And if any amongst you takes them [Jews and Christians] as Auliya [friends, protectors, helpers, etc.], then surely he is one of them” [al-Maa’idah 5:51]. This may be referring

Were Any Prophets Sent to the People of Africa and Europe?

Praise be to Allah. Firstly: One of the basic facts that are affirmed in our religion is that Allah, may He be exalted, has established proof against His slaves by sending the Messengers and sending down the Books. They were not sent to one nation to the exclusion of others, or to one continent to the exclusion of others. Rather they were sent to all nations, in different places and at different times, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Verily! We have sent you with the truth, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner. And there never was a nation but a warner had passed among them.” [Faatir 3524] “And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghoot (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghoot besides Allah)” [an-Nahl 16:36]. Hence it is part of the justice of Allah that He has decreed that He will not punish anyone whom the call of the Prophets and Mes

Expecting the Wife or Her Guardian to Provide the Dowry is a Custom That is Contrary to Sharee‘ah

Praise be to Allaah. The dowry (mahr) is a right that the wife has over her husband because Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And give to the women (whom you marry) their Mahr (obligatory bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) with a good heart; but if they, of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, take it, and enjoy it without fear of any harm (as Allaah has made it lawful)” [al-Nisa’ 4:4]. Al-Tabari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: What Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, meant by that is: Give the women their dowries as a gift that is required and obligatory.  And he said: It was narrated that Qataadah said, concerning the words “And give to the women (whom you marry) their Mahr (obligatory bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) with a good heart”: As an obligation. And it was narrated that Ibn Jurayj said concerning the words “And give to the women (whom you mar
