The Best Way to Encourage Children to Recite the Quran?

The Qur’an is the word of Allah. It’s an honor and blessing for every Muslim parent to witness their children love the Qur’an.

Parents should encourage their children to read and love reciting the Quran. This should be done in the best way and kind manners.

Loving the Qur’an is not only limited to memorizing specific aayaat (verses) when instructed to do so. When a child loves the Qur’an, he feels the urge to recite ayat throughout the day, understand what he’s reciting, and is interested in everything related to the Qur’an. Children are predominantly influenced by their surroundings and their primary caregivers. So, the role of parents is crucial in helping children develop a strong and loving bond with the Qur’an.

FIRSTLY, we should know the distractions surrounding the child. One of the major distractions is TV and music. Both are becoming a style of life and they are a big window to further collapsing and disastrous activities that many children get involved in.

TV, for instance, lessens the interest of a child to read or focus. Many children have a problem with concentration because of the daydreams they borrow from movies and music.
SECONDLY, parents cannot make his/her child interested in doing anything unless he/she makes him weigh and feel the value of what is to be done. Partially, father or mother can use rational dialogue with their child for that purpose, but what is more important in communication is who he likes and respects and takes as a model more. If he sees that memorizing Quran is substantially doing a good image in the father and he likes his father, then that will be very helpful for a child to be interested in reading Quran.

THIRDLY, it’s very important to provide the child with fun, play and recreation. After that, a child will be absolutely ready to accept any guidance or advice from the one who entertains him.

Kids learn better when they see by example, not when they are told to do. Listen and recite the Qur’an every day; even for few minutes at a time. Showing your children the importance of the Qur’an and how much you love the Qur’an will encourage them to follow your footsteps in'sha'Allah.

My dear brothers and sisters, all you can do is try your best and trust Allah. The outcome on everything is up to Allah alone. We all want to be reunited with our children in Jannah, so let’s strive to do good and help them do the same in'sha'Allah.

Almighty Allah knows best.
