Favourite Foods of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and Their Benefits.

All praise be to Allah.

Prophet Muhammad ( peace be upon him) is a role model for all believers. His way of living life is a perfect example for all mankind. He has perfected, by the grace of Allah, the deen of Islam. A True Muslim loves Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and the things he loves and hates the things which Prophet (Peace be upon him) disliked. A true Muslim will try to follow sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and knows that there is a benefit for him in it.

When it comes to Sunnah Foods or the Foods most liked by Prophet (Peace be upon him) everybody must have a knowledge what foods are most liked by our Prophet (Peace be upon him) and what are the health benefits of these Sunnah Foods?

Every food created by Allah has benefits but when we say some are recommended by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) it means that these foods have greater benefits than the rest. Some of these are mentioned in Quran as well.

1. Barley and its benefits.

Prophet (Peace be upon him) recommend barley to cure grief of heart and ailment of the kidney.

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

In the lifetime of Allah’s Apostle, we used to give one Sa’ of food (edible things) as Sadaqat-ul-Fit,r (to the poor). Our food used to be either of barley, raisins (dried grapes), cottage cheese or dates. (Book #25, Hadith #586)

Barley is recommended for hot in temperament diseases. If soaked in water it is used to treat coughs and sore throats. Barley soup is known to cure the pain of fever.

2. Dates and its benefits



The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:



“He who eats seven ‘Ajwa dates every morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them.”

[Sahih Bukhari]

This is one instance of the importance of dates. He (peace be upon him) used to plant date trees himself. Dates have great health benefits some of which are: Good for treating anemia. Helps to gain weight. Helps in maintaining blood health. When eaten in childbirth, eases the pain. Etc.



3. Figs and its benefits

Allah SWT says in Qur’an:

“I swear by the fig and the olive” [Surah At-Tīn (the fig)]

Fresh figs are preferred to dry. Although quite nourishing, they are very hot. So eat of it, for it is a cure for piles and helps gout. It’s a very good cure for stomach disorders. It helps in the curing of a different kind of cancers.

4. Honey and its benefits.

“Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur’an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you remedies, the Qur’an and honey” [Bukhari]

Honey is one food with great and many health benefits. It is the best remedy for diarrhea when mixed in hot water. It is used for creating an appetite, strengthening the stomach, eliminating phlegm; as a meat preservative, hair conditioner, eye soother, and mouthwash. 5. Milk and its benefits.

The Prophet (Peace be upon) said that milk wipes away heat from the heart just as the finger wipes away sweat from the brow. It strengthens the back, improved the brain, renews vision and drives away forgetfulness.

Allah has mentioned:

Rivers of milk the taste whereof does not change” [Qur’an 47:15]. And again He said, “Pure milk, easy and agreeable to swallow for those who drink” [Qur’an 16:66].

6. Olives and its benefits.

Allah has said of the olive tree: “And a tree that grows out of Mount Sinai which produces oil and a condiment for those who eat. For olive oil is the supreme seasoning.” Allah has also called it the Blessed Tree [Qur’an 24:35]

Some of the benefits of olives are: The oil extracted from olives is an excellent treatment for skin, hair, liver etc. It delays aging. Olives nourish and counteract intoxication. Olive leaves can be chewed as a treatment for inflammation of the stomach, skin ulcerations, and eruptions of herpes and hives.

7. Pumpkin and its benefits.

“The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) amongst all other foods, liked pumpkin. [Tirmidhi]

Prophet Muhammad ( peace be upon him) liked pumpkin and recommended to eat it. Its benefits include: Lower risk of prostate cancer, protection against joint inflammation and arthritis. Pumpkin seeds prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Prevents kidney stones and depression.
