In today’s modern world it is almost normal to be engaged in cybersex. Unfortunately, many married people do it on daily basis and justify it by saying that it is only for fun and entertainment. It is not physical and hence is okay. Well, it is not!

No scholar in present times would permit cybersex with a woman/man on the basis that it is “mere words.” Islam has forbidden Zina at all levels and in its all forms. The Quran does not simply tell believers to not perform Zina but it clearly states “do not approach Zina (17:32)” All the rulings that apply for Zina, do apply for cybersex as well. As the commentators of the Qur’an state, this aayah includes both a prohibition on the act of adultery as well as all of which leads to it.

Zina has many forms and it is because of this reason Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) applied the term Zina to the actions of the eyes, tongue, hands, and even heart as per narration of Abu-Hurayra in Sahih Muslim.

The Zina of the tongue, as the Prophet (God bless him) termed it, was understood by all scholars as speaking to a strange woman in a manner that is not permitted, such as flirtatious speech. This is clearly prohibited by the Qur’an, the hadith, and the consensus of religious scholars. Indeed, God commanded the wives of the Prophet (God bless him), and by extension others, to “not be abject in your speech, so that he in whose heart is sickness may be lustful; but speak honorable words.” (33:32)

Trying to justify such actions will only lead to further engagement in it, which will damage not only your worldly and spiritual life but also that of your family and children.

Being engaged in cybersex is an act of immorality. Fahesha or indecency is one of the strongest weapons of the accursed enemy of man, the Shaitaan; who has sworn to mislead and misguide mankind from the Straight Path of Allah Subhanah.

The Shaitaan threatens you with poverty and prompts you to adopt indecency (or acts of shamelessness). Allah promiseth you His forgiveness and bounties, and Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things. (2:268)

Cybersex not only harms an individual but also creates distrust between spouses. It can lead to complications in marriage. One must stay away from such evil acts. The only thing that can stop one from acts of indecency, or intentionally disobeying any command of Allah and His Messenger (saws); is the fear and consciousness that One Day, everyone will be brought forth in the Presence of the All-Mighty Lord to give a full accounting of one's deeds.

And Allah knows best.
