Smoking is injurious to health! We see this phrase on every cigarette packet. Perhaps we know that all nations of the world, be it Muslim or non-muslim, have waged war against smoking because it is harmful.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There should be no harming or reciprocating harm.”

There are foods and drinks that are beneficial and harmful as well. Allah described our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in the following terms (interpretation of the meaning):
“he allows them as lawful At Tayyibaat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al Khabaa’ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, and foods)
[al-A’raaf 7:157]

Also, it was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah forbids you to trade gossip, to ask too many questions and to waste money.” And Allaah forbade wasteful extravagance when He said (interpretation of the meaning):
“and eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allaah) likes not Al Musrifoon (those who waste by extravagance) [al-A’raaf 7:31
All of know that the money spent on smoking is considered to be wasted as from it no benefit is gained and only harm is inflicted. It is indeed money spent on something harmful. If the same money is collected and used to help poor and needy than there won't be anyone sleeping hungry anywhere. The one that smokes not only wastes his money but also harms his body. No one can deny the harmful effects of smoking on a human body.
Our body is amaanah of Allah with us. We have to take utmost care of it and not doing so we are committing a grave sin. On the day of Judgement when Allah will ask us about the way we cared for his amaanah, what will be our answer. Thus one must always take care of one's health and make sure to do so in best possible manner.
Think about how many accidents have been caused by smoking? Because a person left a lighted cigarette butt near some inflammable material. Isn't that a sin to cause harm?
Without any arguments, we all know how a non-smoker is affected by the smoking. Other than being offended by the smell of it, a person can get allergies and other health issues. You are causing harm to your brothers and sisters. Won't you be accountable? What will be your answer?
The nasty smell is still bearable than the smell emitting from the smoker's mouth. Only God knows how a person put up with the bad breath of their relatives. Is that the akhlaq of a believer? To be repulsive?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade those who had eaten garlic or onions from coming to the mosque so that they would not offend their fellow-worshippers with their smell. The smell of onions and garlic is easier to bear than the smell of the smoker and his mouth.
Therefore cigarette is a toxicant that causes harm and only harm, there is no good in it. No one can deny that. Then why should it not be haraam?
